FILM SCENE ANALYSIS:
Visual Analysis:
This scene is taken from the film ' the meg'. it is set on a beach and also within the sea. The aesthetic elements within this scene shown include, a massive crowd of people spread across a beach along with the sea being filled with tons of people as well. It also includes a massive Megalodon shark which is lurking in the waters underneath all the people. it shows us this in a first person perspective from the shark which makes us feel like we are actually there. As the scene gos on, the shark starts to attack which resolves in everyone rushing out of the water to get back to safety. as for a message or mood it conveys, i would say it conveys a scary and frighted mood and tells us that we need to be careful when going into the ocean.
The next part I'm going to be talking about is the space and composition used within the film scene. This is mainly the position of characters and objects within a particular shot. within this film scene, the position of the shark is underneath everyone in the sea and this then leads to an overhead shot of the sharks mouth as he is about to attack. this show the massive difference in size between the shark and the people on the beach. The position of the people on the beach is almost a straight line across the beach with lots of people o land and in the sea.
Portraying of acting within this scene is shown very well through the use of changing emotions by the actors as scripted. This is because, as the scene begins everyone within shot is happy and smiling and they are all having a good time. Until as as soon as the shark appears from out of the water, everyone mood turns to be extremely frightened and starting to scream and shout for help as they all run away from the water back to land.
equipment is used both on land and underwater to capture the action going on within this scene. This is because within this scene of the film there are of lot of shots from the sharks perspective, Which means that there are a lot of shots filmed underwater. However there is still a lot of action on land above the water, so they need both equipment on land and underwater. The angles used underwater are mostly POV shots (Point of view) Which means that you get to see what it looks underwater swimming under people from the sharks POV.
Sound Analysis:
The use of ambient sound within the scene is the next part that i am going to talk about. Ambient sound is used within this scene very well. This is because, there are lots of different types of ambient sound used throughout the whole scene. One in particular which i picked out, is when the boy on the inflatable is paddling away quickly to get back to shore when he realises that there is a massive shark. The ambient sound used is that you can hear the water splashing vigourously where he is paddling as fast as he can to save himself and get away from the shark and back to his mother on land.
The next part of sound within the scene i am going to talk about is the use of the music . There is a piece of music in the background throughout the entirety of the scene. this sound is an eriee piece of music similar to music used in many other shark films. This music creates tension within the scene as it gets louder when it cuts to shots of the shark. This makes the audience know that tension is building and something bad is bound to happen within the scene.
Finally, the last part of sound that i am going to talk about is the use of sound effects within this scene. There are couple good uses throughout the scene, but the main one i am going to be talking bout is the underwater sound effect. This sound effect is used whenever the scene cuts to the sharks POV. This is because the shark is underwater and by this sound effect being put into place when the scene shifts to the sharks POV, it gives the sense that the audience has also gone underwater with the shark and that gives a connection between the audience and the scene itself. it also makes the audience feel like they are the shark with the use of the underwater sound effect and by seeing the sharks POV.
